Student Exchange

A Phenomenal Experience. A View of China Never Seen.

Overview

The 2016 Summer Student Study Visits to China sponsored by the Chinese Ministry of Education and managed by China–United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) will invite American college student groups to study in China for two weeks. Under the customized program, the groups will visit cities in China: Beijing, Shanghai and a third city if time allows, and take classes in local university campuses. During their stay, they will receive lectures on Chinese history, language, culture and economic development etc., presented by credentialed Chinese scholars. The student groups will have additional opportunities to participate in cultural activities, and tour historical sites such as the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. (See attached sample schedule).

Student study groups should comprise of 20 – 22 college students and 2 adult chaperones. Our curriculum is developed based on the group’s education level.

Under the current sponsorship scheme, all domestic group expenses, including tuition, accommodation, in- country transportation, meals and sightseeing tickets, will be covered by the Ministry of Education (MoE) of China. CUSEF will manage the program by providing organizational support and logistical support. CUSEF will also send local staff to assist the group throughout the trip.

Below is a breakdown of the roles and responsibilities of the applicant’s coordinating organizations and adult chaperones accompanying each student group. Please read the notes carefully before submitting the application.

Background Information on the Student Study Visit

Based in Hong Kong, the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) was established in 2008 as a non- government, non-profit entity and is supported entirely by private donations. The Foundation’s aim is to promote

mutual understanding and trust through open and constructive communications and exchanges between the two peoples of the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America.

The Foundation believes understanding and trust are the cornerstones of success for the world's most important bilateral relationship. Our programs serve as a critical bridge for the two countries by facilitating open and constructive exchange among policy-makers, business leaders, academics, think-tanks, cultural figures, and educators from China and the United-States.

CUSEF also has a long-term goal of engaging future leaders of the two nations. From the year of 2013 to 2015, CUSEF sponsored and/or organized more than 15 student delegations, ranging from high-school students to postgraduate students, to visit China in order to nurture knowledge and foster a deeper understanding between Chinese and American citizens. So far, more than 200 American students have benefited from the program.
